Text and Writing
I can't remember a time when I didn't like writing. I've always found it the best way of expressing myself and, of course, of experimenting and having a bit of fun with language. It's one of the reasons I keep a blog, and it's probably what got me into linguistics in the first place. I find different styles and registers of writing fascinating, as well as the way that authors prey on readers' previous experiences, via intertextuality and satire.
Over the years, I have been called upon on numerous occasions to look through documents for friends or relatives to tidy up the grammar, hone the style, and generally make them read better. From time to time I have also undertaken such work on a paid basis, but never regularly as I tend to pick and choose from this point of view; only taking such tasks as appear interesting to me at the time. I have also written copy for numerous websites, and for promotional brochures and flyers, as well as writing instruction manuals for software, and procedural manuals for my current employer. I am also renowned for my letters of complaint, all of which are in the repository.
My Writing Repository contains all examples of my original work that I could find, and may be of interest to those of you with a linguistic background, or with interests that mirror my own. If you fancy a laugh, the complaint letters are worth a look.
